57 Prisons and 156 Courts in the UK are to be linked using videoconferencing over an IP-based virtual private network.
As well as linking prisons and remand centres to courts, the system will provide briefing rooms to allow confidential communications between lawyers and their clients prior to hearings, and vulnerable witness rooms will be linked in to allow children or other witnesses to give evidence without fear of intimidation
